Maine Emergency County Communications Association
MECCA (Maine Emergency County Communications Assoc.) is comprised of Directors from each of the thirteen (thirteen) Regional County Communications Centers/911 PSAPS that operate statewide. There are thirteen as Aroostook, York and Kennebec Counties do not operate a regional center and are not 911 PSAPs. Many of these Centers shine as an example of how consolidation of municipal and County communications services can merge and can work efficiently and cost effectively.
MECCA was formed so that the County Communications Centers would have a representative on the MCCA Board of Directors and an organized approached to day to day demands of the 911 PSAPS. These Centers provide call taking and dispatching for all emergency services within the County they represent. They are all 911 PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) for the statewide 911 network. As such all dispatchers in these Centers are certified in 911 policies and procedures and EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) providing pre-arrival instructions to people making emergency medical calls and requests for ambulances. They are the lifeline to law enforcement personnel operating in the field. Every Dispatcher in these Centers are also trained and certified by the State to be teletype operators, providing State and Federal records to local law enforcement agencies.
MECCA has successfully testified on behalf of the Counties whenever legislative bills affecting the delivery of 911 services are heard in legislative committee. We also stay involved in the ever evolving world of 911 and EMD changes. In 2014 the “Next Gen” 911 system will be delivered and implemented in each of the 13 Centers thus providing the latest and most up to date 911 call taking processing.
The membership of MECCA is proud to serve and deliver these vital emergency services to their perspective citizens.
